Israel and the US Consider Land Blockade Against Iran

2026-07-31 09:46

Odaily Planet Daily News The United States and Israel are discussing the possibility of implementing a land blockade against Iran. The proposal is one of several options being considered by Trump and Netanyahu, aimed at further escalating economic pressure on Iran. The plan may require the US and Israel to pressure Iran's neighboring countries and regional partners to tighten or even close border crossings, restricting the flow of Iranian import and export trade. Retired three-star Lieutenant General Sean MacFarland stated that although a land blockade is "virtually impossible to implement," "if you deprive Iran of its ability to trade... then you are economically isolating it. That is the way to make them yield. Economic means are the most straightforward approach, but they must include a military action component."

Iran shares borders with Iraq, Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Armenia, and Azerbaijan, which means US and Israeli leaders must persuade these countries to cooperate, many of which are not their allies. A land blockade against Iran could target key border crossings, such as Incheh Borun and Sarakhs-Sarakhs, which connect Iran and Turkmenistan. (Daily Telegraph)
