Iranian military spokesperson: The right to manage the Strait of Hormuz belongs to Iran; the US imposition of unauthorized shipping routes violates the memorandum.
Odaily reported that, according to Iran's Tasnim News Agency, Iranian military spokesperson Akraminia stated on Sunday that, based on the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, the responsibility for managing maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz lies with Iran.
He stated that the United States is attempting to impose an unauthorized shipping route in the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz, which violates its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. He pointed out that Washington has a long history of failing to fulfill its international commitments, and the same problem exists in the current understanding reached between the US and Iran.
Akraminia added that Iran is adopting a peaceful and cooperative approach by working with Oman to develop a joint navigation arrangement for the strategic waterway. He stated that US interference undermines regional security and urged Washington to comply with the memorandum, respect regional stability, and take into account the interests of regional countries.
Akbariyani also warned that every time the US attacks Iranian islands, coastal areas, or facilities, it has received a firm response, and the US action on Saturday night was immediately retaliated against. He further stated that the Iranian armed forces have continuously strengthened their combat readiness before and after the ceasefire, using the ceasefire period to enhance military capabilities while constantly updating operational plans to deal with various situations. He finally warned the United States to stop its destabilizing intervention in the region. (Jinshi)
