U.S. Media: Trump Tightens Terms of Iran Agreement, Amendments Submitted to Iran
According to the New York Times, three officials revealed that U.S. President Donald Trump has tightened the terms of a potential framework agreement aimed at ending the war with Iran and has sent these amendments back to Iran for consideration. It remains unclear what specific changes Trump has made to the text of the agreement.
Two officials stated that Trump is concerned about a part of the potential agreement involving the unfreezing of Iranian funds. He has been sharply critical of former President Barack Obama for taking similar steps in the agreement signed over a decade ago to curb Iran's nuclear program. One official noted that Trump is also frustrated with Iran's delay in responding to U.S. proposals. These proposals were formed through repeated consultations with the participation of intermediaries, including Pakistan.
The official added that Trump's amendments—essentially a tougher new proposal—may be intended to accelerate the process by pressuring Iran to accept the framework agreement already submitted to its Supreme Leader, Mojtaba, for approval. (Jinshi)
