X Platform Opens Trading Access via Cashtags: Is the Next "Global Financial Super App" Here?
- Core Takeaway: X platform has launched the Cashtag Partner Program in the United States, adding a "Trade" entry point for stock, ETF, and cryptocurrency cashtags, allowing users to jump directly to partner brokerages to complete trades—marking a deep integration of social media and financial trading.
- Key Elements:
- The first batch of partners includes Interactive Brokers, Moomoo, Gemini, Kraken, and Coinbase, covering both traditional brokerages and native crypto exchanges.
- During the testing phase, it drove approximately $1 billion in trading volume within 4 days, boosting about $250 million per day, and is expected to generate at least $25 billion in trading volume by year-end.
- X platform is not responsible for trade execution or acting as a broker; it only builds financial data tools and links, leaving the trading process to professional institutions.
- Trading access is opened differently based on asset type—for example, Tesla stock supports Gemini, Interactive Brokers, Moomoo, and E*TRADE, while BTC additionally supports Kraken.
- The community has expressed disappointment over the exclusion of Robinhood, Backpack, and others from the first batch of partners, but due to U.S. regulatory requirements, the partner list may be difficult to expand in the short term.

In the early hours of this morning, an official long-form post from X's business monetization team once again pushed the Cashtag feature into the market spotlight.
According to official sources, X has launched the X Cashtag Partner Program in the United States, adding a "Trade" entry point to Cashtags. After users click on a supported stock, ETF, or cryptocurrency Cashtag, they can view asset price charts and related posts, and then jump to partner brokerages via the "Trade" entry to complete transactions; the first batch of partner brokerages includes Interactive Brokers, Moomoo (Futu US), Gemini, Kraken, and Coinbase.
Earlier this year, we explored the many possibilities of Cashtags in "From Scrolling Tweets to Buying Tokens: Will 'Smart Asset Tags' Turn X into a Crypto 'Trading Terminal'?" — and now, those ideas are gradually becoming reality.
X Partners with 5 Major Platforms to Turn a New Page in Social Finance: Established Brokerages and Crypto Exchanges Form the First Batch of Partners
A closer look at X's partner list reveals a balanced selection made after careful consideration.
Among them, Interactive Brokers and Moomoo are traditional brokerage platforms, though there are notable differences between the two. The former is one of the long-established top-tier brokerages offering trading across all asset categories — including cryptocurrencies, US stocks, ETFs, and derivatives — primarily serving institutions and professional traders; the latter positions itself more as an emerging internet-savvy brokerage with a larger base of retail and smaller investors.
Gemini, Kraken, and Coinbase are native crypto exchanges, supporting a greater number of cryptocurrencies with richer on-chain interaction and derivatives features. Additionally, the three exchanges responded in a more meme-like fashion: Coinbase's official account appeared in the comments, directly @-ing Grok to verify the news; Kraken and its Kraken Pro expressed anticipation and positive responses to the partnership, citing "more attention for BTC" and "friendly exchanges between both parties."

It's worth noting that some community members in the comments expressed disappointment that their preferred trading platforms were not included in the "first batch of partners" list, including US-compliant trading platform Backpack and Robinhood, which recently gained traction from stock tokens and meme coin trends; some BNB community members also mentioned that Binance had made a small investment in X and expressed hope for future integration between the two.
However, given the strict requirements of US-region compliance operations, it may be difficult to see new partner trading platforms in the near term.

Regarding this partnership, Monique, Global Head of Advertising at SpaceXAI, also shared her vision for the future user experience: "Users can seamlessly transition from information discovery and topic discussion to brokerage transactions without interrupting their current experience." In a sense, the opening of the trading entry point for the Cashtag feature truly realizes "Click to Trade" on the user side.
The Business Behind Cashtags: Test Phase Drove Over $1 Billion in Trading Volume in 4 Days, On Track to Drive at Least $25 Billion by Year-End
If X's sphere of influence had previously remained at the "information and news" level, then with Cashtags connecting to brokerage and exchange trading entry points, X has for the first time formed a deeper connection with financial assets, becoming a "new social finance gateway" for countless US-based X users.
It's worth noting that Nikita, the former X product lead who oversaw the Cashtag feature, publicly stated in April of this year that in just under a week (April 14 to 17), according to aggregated data from the trading pilot, social platform X drove approximately $1 billion in trading volume globally — demonstrating the significant pull effect that combining a social platform with trading features has on market liquidity and user engagement.
At that time, the Cashtag feature only supported "viewing real-time data and price charts for corresponding stocks or crypto assets," yet its boost to related asset trading volume already reached approximately $250 million per day — an extremely pronounced effect. Extrapolating from this data alone, by the end of this year, X could potentially bring at least $25 billion in trading volume to platforms like Interactive Brokers and Coinbase — not to mention that after shortening the trading steps, the boost to trading volume could be even more significant.
Additionally, although Nikita has stepped down from the X product lead role, her previous functional roadmap for Cashtags remains valid. In February of this year, she publicly stated: "X will not be responsible for trade execution or act as a broker; it is simply building financial data tools and links." Looking at it now, X has indeed stayed in its lane — partnering with trading platforms like Interactive Brokers, Moomoo, and Coinbase, and "leaving professional matters to professionals" remains the best choice for a social media platform.
For former product lead Nikita, who has since departed, although she did not see the official launch of the Cashtag trading entry point during her tenure, the final product direction still aligns with her roadmap — which must be quite gratifying.
Finally, based on X's current Cashtag functionality, its trading entry points open different trading channels depending on asset type:
Taking Tesla stock as an example, its trading entry points include only Gemini, Interactive Brokers, Moomoo, and Morgan Stanley's digital self-directed trading platform E*TRADE; the BTC Cashtag trading entry points include Kraken, Gemini, Moomoo, Interactive Brokers, and E*TRADE.

Whether Cashtags can subsequently inject more fresh blood and innovative business models into X's monetization division remains to be seen.
