Zcash mining rewards per solo machine are about 2x Bitcoin's, with roughly 4x higher reward per unit of electricity

Odaily News: Crypto asset management firm Grayscale estimates that Zcash mining rigs generate daily mining rewards roughly 2x those of Bitcoin mining rigs, and about 4x on a per-unit-of-electricity basis. Zcash mining activity has grown to more than 2.5x its level at the start of the year.

Zach Pandl, head of research at Grayscale, said that at current valuations, Zcash mining profitability is relatively high, as token price gains have driven up mining rewards and encouraged more hash rate to join. Grayscale believes that more hash rate can support network security.

The comparison uses the Bitmain S23 Hydro and Bitmain Z15 Pro as samples, assuming an electricity price of $0.05 per kilowatt-hour, full-load operation, and excluding transaction fees. Pool fees, cooling, other operating expenses, and equipment costs are not included in the calculation, and actual profitability is still affected by these factors.

Bitcoin miners' total daily rewards are about $35 million, higher than Zcash's roughly $2 million. Grayscale's Zcash investment product assets under management surpassed $500 million on September 8 and recorded more than $70 million in cumulative external inflows. (Bitcoin.com News)

Electrum Releases Version 4.8.2, Fixing Critical Backup Issue for Lightning Wallets and Strengthening Security

Odaily Reports: Bitcoin News posted on X platform that Electrum has released version 4.8.2, introducing multiple security fixes and strengthening the security of its Bitcoin wallet codebase. The fixes are based on reports from researchers including Bitcoin Red Team, Calle, l0rinc, haoxucu, and m0wer. This version fixes a critical backup issue affecting certain Lightning wallets that use non-deterministic keys and anchor channels. Previously, affected wallets' channel backups and full wallet backups may have been missing the keys required to move funds on-chain after requesting a remote force close. Affected users will receive a warning when starting Electrum and should export new backups, as old backups cannot correctly recover funds in this scenario. This version also strengthens Lightning HTLC verification, rejects previously accepted malformed xpub/xprv keys, expands codebase security hardening, and prevents the Android QR code scanner from reading screenshots. This is Electrum's third security-focused release since July, following versions 4.8.0 and 4.8.1.

North Korea uses third-country IT workers to pass interviews at US companies, then takes over the positions after hiring

Odaily reports that North Korea is using remote IT workers from third countries such as Iran and Lebanon to infiltrate US companies in order to obtain funding to support its weapons programs. After the relevant individuals pass interviews, their positions are usually taken over by North Korean personnel.

The US government and multiple foreign agencies issued warnings in July stating that North Korean IT workers seek contracts and send salaries back to their affiliated North Korean organizations, while also posing insider threats to companies, involving data leaks, cryptocurrency theft, and the theft of sensitive information.

Some third-country IT workers are recruited through LinkedIn, and some of them work part-time as "interview facilitators," earning $500 in cryptocurrency per month.

Data from cybersecurity company CrowdStrike shows that in 2025, cryptocurrency losses caused by North Korea state-linked hackers and threat actors exceeded $2 billion, an increase of 51% year over year. South Korea's central bank estimates that North Korea's GDP grew 3.5% in 2025. (Cointelegraph)

Trader: Bitcoin's Short-Term Continued Choppiness Aims to Hunt Longs and Destroy Bullish Confidence

Odaily reports: Trader Killa posted that Bitcoin has recently been in repeated choppy conditions, with the market repeatedly hunting long positions below previous lows, aiming to clear leverage and gradually destroy the confidence of long holders. Killa believes that this sustained low-sweeping behavior usually signals that the market ultimately intends to reward longs, with a final sweep marking a local bottom, followed by price expanding toward highs. As a BTC-focused quantitative trader, Killa predicted the top of this bull cycle in May 2025 and has over 200,000 followers on X. In mid-April, he shorted Bitcoin at $74,688 and turned long on June 5 during a broad market decline.

US House Ways and Means Committee Schedules September 16 Markup of Cryptocurrency Tax Rules

Odaily: The U.S. House Ways and Means Committee is scheduled to hold a markup on September 16 of a series of digital asset tax bills, moving crypto tax legislation toward a full House vote. The markup focuses on two core issues: when miners and stakers should be taxed on newly created tokens, and whether wash sale rules applicable to stocks should extend to digital assets.

The two key bills are the "Mining and Staking Tax Clarity Act" H.R. 9175 and the "Applying Existing Tax Anti-Abuse Rules to Digital Assets Act" H.R. 9172. The former provides that miners and stakers need not pay tax immediately upon receiving new tokens, and can instead pay tax as ordinary income when the tokens are actually sold; the latter extends wash sale and constructive sale rules to actively traded digital assets, closing a tax loophole that crypto traders have exploited for years.
