South Korea’s “memory twins” are expected to post more than KRW 184 trillion in third-quarter operating profit, compared with KRW 90.8 trillion in the same period of 2025

Odaily reports: This week, South Korea’s “memory twins” will announce their third-quarter 2026 results: SK Hynix is scheduled to report on Wednesday, and Samsung Electronics will follow on Thursday. With rising AI chip demand and higher memory chip prices, these two memory chip giants are expected to deliver one of the strongest performances in their history, with combined third-quarter operating profit projected to reach KRW 184.4 trillion (about USD 139.1 billion).

Samsung Electronics’ preliminary results released on October 8 showed third-quarter operating profit of KRW 107.4 trillion (about USD 80.17 billion), nearly eight times higher than KRW 12.17 trillion in the same period last year. Analysts surveyed by market tracker FnGuide expect SK Hynix’s third-quarter revenue to reach KRW 98.2 trillion and operating profit to reach KRW 77 trillion. By comparison, Samsung (KRW 43.6 trillion) and SK Hynix (KRW 47.2 trillion) had combined operating profit of KRW 90.8 trillion in 2025. (Cailian Press)
