A Tsinghua University graduate was scammed for nearly 45 days: induced to buy cryptocurrency and transfer funds, placed under 24-hour surveillance
Odaily reports: Shi, a Tsinghua University graduate, encountered a telecommunications scam while studying abroad. The scammers impersonated cyber police and Interpol to induce him to cooperate with a so-called investigation. The ordeal lasted nearly 45 days, during which he was monitored 24 hours a day. During this period, the scammers induced Shi to purchase cryptocurrency and transfer it to designated accounts, and also demanded that he defraud his family of funds for the purported case handling. He reminded the public to pay more attention to anti-fraud awareness campaigns and take them seriously, as those involved can be blinded by the situation, and scammers exploit time gaps and information asymmetries to set precise traps.
