BSC Jenner hard fork introduces millisecond-level timestamps, enabling smart contracts to read block time with higher precision

Odaily reports that BNB Chain has announced that the BEP-706 proposal has been included in the Jenner hard fork, which adds a precompiled contract at address 0x70 that enables smart contracts to read the millisecond-level timestamp of the current block. Previously, contracts could only read time at second-level precision via block.timestamp, making it impossible to distinguish the exact time difference when multiple blocks are produced within the same second. BEP-706 allows developers to obtain the number of milliseconds since the Unix epoch, which can be used to improve the precision of time-limited signature quotes, auction deadlines, and timeliness checks for price oracle updates. This feature is an incremental upgrade and does not affect the existing second-level return mechanism of block.timestamp.
