Anthropic IPO Filing Discloses Nearly $900 Billion in "Hidden Debt"
Odaily Report: Anthropic PBC has committed in its IPO filing that, as infrastructure expansion accelerates, the company will spend nearly $900 billion on servers, buildings, and power through future obligations. This scale far exceeds the liabilities listed on its balance sheet that investors can directly see. Investors need to read deep into the notes of Anthropic's financial statements to see the details of its planned expenditures—these off-balance-sheet obligations include future lease contracts and purchase agreements for data centers, power, and GPUs.
David Trainer, CEO of investment research firm New Constructs, said that the scale of committed expenditures of this kind, known as "hidden debt," is enormous at Anthropic. He stated: "They must invest massive amounts of capital in training, inference, and energy." (Jinshi)
