US Media Reveals Details of Vance's Letter to Iran: Direct Negotiation Offer Extended, Istanbul or Doha Could Be Meeting Venue

Odaily Report: According to The Washington Post, US Vice President Vance has sent a letter to Iran's top hardline leader, expressing willingness to meet in person to discuss a negotiated end to the war. A US official familiar with the negotiations said the core of the letter is "re-emphasizing the primacy of national interests in negotiations, whether American or Iranian national interests." Vance stressed that America's core interest is "ensuring Iran does not obtain nuclear weapons." The official explained that Vance summarized Iran's interests as "rebuilding an economy devastated by war and sanctions, and safeguarding national sovereignty." Additionally, Vance conveyed the requirement that "Iran needs to send representatives who are authorized and able to discuss nuclear issues." Vance's proactive outreach to Rezaei reflects the Trump administration's assessment that Rezaei is a key figure for US engagement with Tehran and the only person capable of building internal consensus in Iran on halting the nuclear program. US intelligence officials believe Rezaei maintains regular contact with Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba, and that the two have communicated in the past few days since Vance's letter was delivered. The US official said that if the two sides hold a meeting, the most likely locations are Istanbul, Turkey, or Doha, Qatar. (Jinshi)
