US CFTC Plans to Hold Roundtable on December 15 to Discuss 24/7 Trading Mechanisms in Derivatives Markets
Odaily Report: The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has announced that it will hold an industry roundtable on December 15 to discuss the feasibility of implementing 24/7 trading in derivatives markets. The meeting will build on the CFTC's work this summer in seeking public comment on extending trading hours for standard futures contracts and introducing perpetual contract mechanisms.
The meeting will focus on topics including overnight trading, asset tokenization, infrastructure development, staffing, and operational readiness, exploring how to protect market participants' rights while promoting financial innovation and safeguarding the integrity and resilience of U.S. derivatives markets.
CFTC Chairman Selig stated that the regulator will not take a "one-size-fits-all" approach to 24/7 trading, but instead hopes to hear from all industry parties and promote the development of trading mechanisms across different asset classes in a prudent and responsible manner.
The meeting will be held at the CFTC's headquarters in Washington, D.C., and will be livestreamed to the public. The specific agenda, speakers, and registration information will be announced later.
