Solana Alpenglow upgrade will activate on October 21, with finality dropping from 12.8 seconds to 150 milliseconds
Odaily News: Solana ecosystem development company Anza stated that the Alpenglow mainnet beta will activate on October 21, 2026, at 14:50 UTC. Once the upgrade is complete, transaction finality is expected to be reduced from approximately 12.8 seconds to 150 milliseconds.
Alpenglow will replace the existing TowerBFT voting mechanism with Votor, allowing validators to avoid writing every vote on-chain and instead confirm consensus through direct communication aggregated into smaller records. The network is expected to maintain the existing system for approximately 18 minutes before switching to Votor once staked SOL reaches 82% of the validator set.
Another component of Alpenglow, Rotor, will adjust how new blocks are distributed among validators, but no activation date has been announced yet. This upgrade includes only Votor, and Solana will temporarily focus on replacing its consensus mechanism. (Bitcoin.com News)
