Stablecoin Market's $2 Trillion Target Pushed Back to 2030, Standard Chartered Says Supply Growth Has Stalled This Year

Odaily News: Geoffrey Kendrick, Global Head of Digital Asset Research at Standard Chartered Bank, said in a Wednesday report that he still expects the stablecoin market to reach $2 trillion, but due to stalled supply growth this year, the expected timeline for hitting that target has been pushed back from 2028 to 2030. Over the past 12 months, stablecoin supply has roughly hovered between $300 billion and $320 billion, and currently stands at about $309 billion. The report said that this year's average monthly on-chain transfer volume for stablecoins is close to $10 trillion, up from $4 trillion in 2025, with a single-month peak of about $19 trillion in May; average monthly turnover velocity has risen from about 15 times in 2025 to about 30 times. USDT's average monthly turnover is about 7 times, mainly used for USD savings in emerging markets; USDC's average monthly turnover has increased from about 45 times to about 80 times, with more usage in payments, financial transactions, and early-stage payments between AI agents.
