Coinbase Partners with UK and US Law Enforcement to Combat West African Transnational Scam Network
Odaily News — During an international joint anti-fraud operation held in London from October 6 to 9, Coinbase collaborated with the UK's National Crime Agency (NCA), the US Department of Justice's Scam Center Strike Force, and the Tech Against Scams coalition to jointly combat transnational scam networks operating in West Africa. Coinbase's global intelligence team participated in tracking illicit fund flows, assisting in freezing involved assets, and sharing investigative leads in real time.
The related scam tactics include fake cryptocurrency investments, impersonating law enforcement officers, and coercing victims into transferring funds through staged video call arrest scenarios. Coinbase stated that as crackdowns on scam compounds in Southeast Asia continue to intensify, some criminal networks are gradually shifting to regions such as West Africa, and the company will continue to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to track cross-border fraud funds.
