Bank of England: No Rush to Launch Digital Pound "Britcoin"
Odaily reports that Bank of England Deputy Governor Sarah Breeden said during the IMF annual meetings that the UK is currently in no rush to launch a retail central bank digital currency, the digital pound "Britcoin." Whether to proceed with the digital pound project depends on whether other innovative payment solutions—such as commercial stablecoins and tokenized bank deposits—can deliver the benefits of tokenization. She also emphasized that she hopes UK businesses can develop successful sterling stablecoins, so that UK residents and businesses are not left with no option but to access innovative payment services through dollar stablecoins.
