Ethereum's Glamsterdam upgrade has been activated on the Sepolia testnet, with the Gas limit raised to 200 million

Odaily News: Ethereum's next-phase upgrade, Glamsterdam, was successfully activated on the Sepolia testnet on October 6, with no critical failures during the upgrade process. The upgrade includes 18 EIPs aimed at supporting a block Gas limit of approximately 200 million, roughly 3.3 times the current mainnet limit of 60 million Gas.

Key improvements include the introduction of an in-protocol proposer-builder separation mechanism, support for parallel client validation, and an increase in the smart contract code size limit. The block Gas limit on the Sepolia testnet reached 200 million approximately 11 hours after the upgrade.

Ethereum Foundation researcher Toni Wahrstätter stated that client execution efficiency improved after the upgrade, with Geth's processing time for a 40 million Gas block reduced from approximately 115 milliseconds to 30 milliseconds.

Glamsterdam is expected to be deployed on the Hoodi testnet on October 27, with the mainnet upgrade targeted for Q4 2026.
