Alabama Crypto ATM Scam Refund Rules Take Effect, Eligible New Users Can Get Full Refunds
Odaily News: New refund rules for crypto ATM operators in the U.S. state of Alabama took effect on October 1. Eligible new users can receive a full refund of the transaction amount and fees, while existing users can receive a refund of half the transaction amount plus fees.
New user eligibility covers the first crypto ATM transaction and the following 30 days. Within 60 calendar days after a disputed payment, the operator, law enforcement agencies, and the Alabama Securities Commission (ASC) must be notified, and a fraud report must be submitted.
The daily and monthly transaction limits for new users are $1,000 and $10,000, respectively, while the daily limit for existing users is $10,500. Operators must also disclose fees, crypto and U.S. dollar amounts, and exchange rate information; U.S.-headquartered operators must provide round-the-clock domestic U.S. toll-free customer service.
Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) records show that in 2025, Alabama had 177 fraud complaints involving crypto ATMs, with reported losses of nearly $3 million; during the same period, there were 13,460 related complaints nationwide, with losses of nearly $389 million. (Bitcoin.com News)
