Three quantum computing companies each receive up to $100 million in funding, with the U.S. Department of Commerce taking minority stakes

2026-09-10 00:24

Odaily News: The U.S. Department of Commerce has awarded up to $100 million each to Rigetti, D-Wave, and Quantinuum through the CHIPS Act, totaling up to $300 million, and will hold minority equity stakes in all three companies to advance the development of hardware, manufacturing, and error correction systems for fault-tolerant quantum computers. Ethereum has set December 2029 as the deadline for achieving quantum resistance across its execution layer, consensus layer, and data layer; Bitcoin developers are advancing two post-quantum signature migration proposals, BIP-360 and BIP-361, with industry experts believing a viable migration path must be established before 2029.
