SK Hynix CEO: Memory Shortage to Last Until End of 2030; HBM Demand Unlikely to Plunge Even in Downturn

2026-08-28 10:05

Odaily News, SK Hynix CEO Kwak Noh-Jung stated at a press conference, "We expect the current market conditions to persist through the end of 2030. At present, we do not see any clear signals indicating the market is entering a downturn."

Kwak Noh-Jung also noted that even if the memory market enters a downturn in the future, the likelihood of a severe decline similar to past cycles is extremely low: "In previous downturns, the memory business was essentially 100% a commodity, with manufacturers competing homogenously primarily by expanding production capacity. However, for HBM, customers and semiconductor manufacturers co-develop the chips, requiring close collaboration to maximize performance, which makes market demand easier to predict."
