Memory shortage may persist until 2027, with Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron capacity sold out in advance
Odaily News: The tight supply of memory chips is expected to persist until 2027. Industry insiders reveal that the three major memory manufacturers have essentially completed capacity allocation negotiations for next year. In short, Samsung (SSNLF), SK Hynix (SKHY.US), and Micron (MU.US) have sold out their projected memory supply for 2027, with no new capacity expansion plans on the horizon. Reports indicate that the three major suppliers have allocated all DRAM and HBM capacity for 2027. Customers will ultimately receive only 60% to 70% of their initial requested volumes.
Industry insiders point out that 2027 will mark the most severe phase of the memory shortage. Allocation volumes are now largely finalized, but final shipment pricing is expected to be determined closer to delivery. In terms of market share, according to Counterpoint Research's global memory tracking data, Samsung held a 39% DRAM market share in Q2, ranking first; SK Hynix followed with 26% in second place, though this marks a significant decline from 39% in the same period last year; Micron trailed closely at 25%.
