Putin: Russia Needs to Develop Its Own Large Language Models to Safeguard National Development

Odaily President Putin stated at a government meeting on artificial intelligence technology development on the 10th that large language models have become a foundational, end-to-end technology for national development across various sectors. He pointed out: "Only by possessing our own independent models can we confidently move forward, ensure security and defense capabilities, and maintain our position at the forefront of scientific and engineering thought. Moreover, Russia is one of the few countries in the world with unique expertise in this field." Putin also mentioned that so-called open-source solutions are often used to develop language models. He explained: "Developers from various countries share complete algorithm libraries, and this resource of cooperation and partnership should naturally be utilized effectively." (Jin10)
