Trump Signs Executive Order to Combat Cybercrime and Fraud Against U.S. Citizens

2026-03-07 12:38

Odaily News President Trump signed an executive order on March 6, directing the Secretary of State, the Secretary of the Treasury, the Secretary of War, the Attorney General, and the Secretary of Homeland Security to review existing frameworks within 60 days and submit an action plan targeting the cybercrime activities of transnational criminal organizations within 120 days. The order instructs the establishment of a task force within the National Coordination Center to coordinate federal-level detection, disruption, and deterrence efforts against the cybercrime activities of foreign transnational criminal organizations.

The order requires the Attorney General to submit recommendations within 90 days for establishing a victim recovery program, aimed at providing restitution to victims of cyber fraud from funds recovered, forfeited, or seized from criminal organizations. On the international front, the order requires the Secretary of State to engage with countries that tolerate such criminal activities, potentially employing measures such as restricting foreign aid, targeted sanctions, visa restrictions, trade penalties, and the expulsion of implicated foreign officials.
