Republican hardliners are unhappy that the defense bill passed without banning central bank digital currencies.
Odaily Planet Daily reports that the U.S. House of Representatives passed a defense spending bill on Wednesday, but the bill omitted a ban on central bank digital currencies, despite previous promises to include them. This has drawn strong criticism from a group of Republicans.
"Conservatives were explicitly promised that the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) would include strong anti-central bank digital currency (CBDC) provisions. But that promise has been broken."
Representative Self introduced an amendment on Tuesday to include a ban on central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), which had previously been removed from the bill. However, the amendment failed to pass and did not go to a vote in the House. Self stated that a group of Republicans "were told that the bill would include provisions against CBDCs. However, we were forced to accept a bill that was either accepted or abandoned, and that bill violated previous promises. Without those provisions, I would prefer to abandon the bill."
