Odaily Planet Daily reports that South Korean prosecutors are seeking a three-year prison sentence for actress Hwang Jung-eum, who is being indicted for allegedly embezzling 4.3 billion won (approximately $3.07 million) in company funds and investing them in virtual currencies. The Jeju District Prosecutors' Office requested a three-year prison sentence for violating the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes (embezzlement) during the final public hearing of the case, heard by the Jeju District Court's Criminal Division II (Chief Judge Im Jae-nam) on the 21st. Hwang Jung-eum was previously indicted for allegedly embezzling company funds and investing in virtual currencies. Her agency, Y1 Entertainment, announced on June 17 that she had repaid all outstanding debts in two installments, on May 30 and June 5. Previously, Hwang Jung-eum withdrew a total of 4.34 billion won from Hunmin Jung-eum Entertainment around 2022, most of which was used for cryptocurrency investment. The case involved a violation of the embezzlement provisions of the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes.
