US Department of Justice: A Canadian cybercriminal was sentenced to one year in prison for NFT fraud
21hours ago

Odaily Planet Daily reported that the U.S. Department of Justice announced that a Canadian national was sentenced to one year in prison yesterday for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit aggravated identity theft. According to court documents, 22-year-old Cameron Albert Redman orchestrated a scheme to steal non-fungible tokens (NFTs) by gaining unauthorized access to the accounts of multiple digital artists. The conspirators exploited the artists' online identities and directed their fans to fraudulent websites where victims attempted to claim new NFTs from the artists. Although the victims believed they authorized a transaction to transfer the NFTs to their digital wallets, they unknowingly allowed the conspirators to steal cryptocurrency and NFTs from their wallets. Cameron Albert Redman and his accomplices reportedly defrauded over 200 victims, netting them over $794,000.
