Odaily News The Norwegian government plans to temporarily ban the construction of new data centers that use energy-intensive technologies for cryptocurrency mining. Karianne Tung, Norway's Minister of Digitalization and Public Administration, said the government intends to limit cryptocurrency mining activities in the country to the greatest extent possible in order to prioritize the electricity needs of other industries. She pointed out that crypto mining is not only energy-intensive, but also has a very limited contribution to employment and revenue in the local economy. The temporary ban may be officially implemented in the fall of 2025.
