Federal court rules Ledger must fight consumer claims in the U.S.
Odaily News Ledger SAS must contend with consumer claims in the United States that it misleadingly advertised the security of its cryptocurrency password “wallet” devices, a U.S. federal court has ruled.
LaShonda A. Hunt, a judge in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, said that although the sales contract for the Nano S and Nano X hardware devices mentioned that French law was applicable, this reference was not exclusive, and the consumer's allegations did not depend on the application or interpretation of the contract, so the contract could not limit the consumer's place of prosecution.
"SAS" is one of the types of companies commonly used by French companies. This corporate structure is similar to the "Limited Liability Company" (LLC) in the United States. It provides a flexible management structure and shareholder liability protection and is usually used for small and medium-sized enterprises or startups. (Bloomberg)
