The US SEC is considering abandoning part of the 2022 proposal to expand the definition of alternative trading systems to crypto companies

2025-03-10 22:16

Odaily News FOX Business reporter Eleanor Terrett revealed that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), under the leadership of Acting Chairman Mark Uyeda, is considering abandoning part of the 2022 Gary Gensler-era proposal, which originally aimed to expand the definition of alternative trading systems (ATS) to include certain cryptocurrency companies.
In a speech today at the Institute of International Bankers’ annual Washington conference, Uyeda said: “…given the strong negative public comments regarding the inclusion of cryptocurrencies in the definition of a trading platform, I have asked SEC staff to provide an option to waive that portion of the proposal.”
He also asked staff to reengage with the U.S. Treasury, the Federal Reserve, and market participants to discuss where the commission should move forward on regulatory changes for alternative trading systems.
