Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan says he intends to join new government in fighting cryptocurrency crime

2025-01-21 04:21

Odaily News Tigran Gambaryan, a Binance executive who was illegally imprisoned in Nigeria for eight months, said he would be honored to have the opportunity to serve his country again and fight cryptocurrency crime under the new Trump administration.
Gambaryan, who has served as Binance’s head of financial crime compliance for the past two years, is a former federal agent who was part of the federal government’s early elite team tracking cryptocurrencies, including some high-profile investigations during Trump’s last term.
Gambaryan was recommended for several high-profile positions, such as the head of crypto assets at the U.S. SEC or a leadership position at the FBI’s cyber division. According to people familiar with the matter, the Trump transition team’s recommendation came from people associated with the Bitcoin 2024 Nashville conference that Trump attended, such as event organizer David Bailey and Kraken’s head of strategic initiatives Tracy Hoyos-López.
Bailey and Hoyos-López declined to comment. The Trump transition team did not respond to a request for comment.
When asked about the potential move, Binance CEO Richard Teng said in an interview: “As of now, Tigran is still our employee, so let’s see what his intentions are. I don’t know what he thinks. I don’t know the process of the U.S. government.”
