Foreign media: X may return to Brazil after complying with the court order, pending court evaluation

2024-09-22 00:24
Odaily News X's lawyers said in a court filing on Friday that X complied with the order requiring the social network to remove accounts accused of participating in false information (dissemination), as well as the Supreme Court's request for a fine and the appointment of a new legal representative for X in Brazil. Brazil's Supreme Court confirmed this in its own filing on Saturday, according to the Times, but it noted that X has not yet submitted the appropriate documents to advance the case and will have five days to do so. André Zonaro Giacchetta, one of X's new lawyers in Brazil, said that the conditions for X's return to Brazil "have been met, but it depends on" the assessment of the country's Supreme Court. Elon Musk has publicly stated that X will continue to not comply with court orders, claiming that the judges behind the orders are engaging in political censorship and at one point describing the requirements as "the most stringent of any country on Earth." Analysts estimate that about 40 million Brazilians use X at least once a month, according to the Associated Press. X did not immediately respond to a request for comment, while Musk and the social network's global government affairs page did not make any comments or statements on Saturday. (Forbes)
