Source: FBI has contacted WazirX regarding recent security incidents

2024-07-31 09:09
Odaily News WazirX co-founder Nischal Shetty said the platform has sought help from several different Indian and international authorities regarding the recent security incident, but declined to name them. WazirX has filed a police complaint in Mumbai and reported the incident to India's Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In). Shetty said India's CERT asked WazirX some "tough questions," which he took as a sign that the agency is investigating the hack. A person familiar with the matter said the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is also in contact with the exchange. "The FBI usually goes after any such situation because it doesn't want money to flow into North Korea," the person said. The FBI has made statements about similar incidents involving North Korea in the past. WazirX declined to comment on whether being acquired by other companies might be included in the options for seeking help. Shetty said he could not reveal how much INR WazirX has on its books because it could "provide a new attack vector for bad actors." He also pointed out that the reason WazirX does not currently allow withdrawals of cryptocurrencies is due to a lack of regulatory clarity. (CoinDesk)
