Blockchain Association supports lifting sanctions on Tornado Cash
2023-11-21 03:11
Odaily News The Blockchain Association has given new support to six plaintiffs suing the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) over sanctions against coin mixer Tornado Cash. In an amicus brief submitted to the U.S. Court of Appeals, the Blockchain Association argued that OFAC’s decision to approve the sanction of the privacy agreement was not only illegal, but also exceeded its statutory authority and was both “arbitrary and capricious” and violated the U.S. Constitution. According to previous news, court documents showed that six people, Joseph Van Loon, Tyler Almeida (Coinbase senior security risk analyst), Alexander Fisher, Preston Van Loon, Kevin Vitale and Nate Welch (former Coinbase senior software engineer), have arrested Tornado from the U.S. Treasury Department. The case for Cashs inclusion on the sanctions list was submitted to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, requesting a retrial of the case.
