The Fantom Foundation: Over $62 million in stablecoins frozen in Multichain wallet addresses.

2023-07-15 03:44
Odaily News: The Fantom Foundation has tweeted that they immediately contacted stablecoin issuers including Circle (USDC), Tether (USDT), and TrueUSD (TUSD) to freeze the assets in the Multichain wallet upon receiving the relevant news about it. Currently, over 60 million USDC and over 2 million USDT have been frozen. The Fantom Foundation is actively reaching out to various contacts and sources to fully understand the situation regarding the Multichain incident. Additionally, a group composed of current Multichain employees has been established to better comprehend the situation and provide support.

In the weeks to come, the foundation will further announce various activities on the Opera chain to help the community and builders to continue moving forward.

Yesterday, it was reported that the official statement from Multichain mentioned that CEO ZhaoJun, who was taken away by the police, remains missing. Prior to this, the team contacted MPC node operators and learned that their access keys to the MPC node servers had been revoked. Furthermore, these MPC node servers, like other regular servers, are actually running on ZhaoJun's personal cloud server account. Team members do not have access to ZhaoJun's personal cloud server account, thus they are unable to log in to these MPC servers.

Since the inception of the project, all operational funds and funds from investors have been under ZhaoJun's control. This also means that all of the team's funds and access to the servers are in the hands of ZhaoJun and the police.

On July 7th, the user assets locked on the MPC address were irregularly transferred to an unknown address. As a result, due to the absence of alternative sources of information and corresponding operational funds, the team was forced to halt operations. The team will update the community with any further notices and developments.
