Odaily News: French fashion brand Dior recently announced the launch of a new men's shoe collection. This collection features a unique encrypted online identity authentication system based on NFC chips and "digital twins" collectibles (NFTs).
Designed by Dior's menswear artistic director, Kim Jones, the sports shoe named B33 is part of the fashion brand's Autumn 2023 men's collection. The first of the seven sports shoes combines mohair and Dior's iconic herringbone pattern and will be exclusively released online on July 6th. There will be a limited edition of 470 pairs, priced at $1,350 each. Each pair of shoes will come with a corresponding "digital twin" collectible minted on the Ethereum blockchain.
Shortly after the exclusive launch of these NFT-matched sports shoes, Dior will release six more models of B33 sports shoes. These styles will also have an NFC chip placed on the right sole, but they will not come with digital NFTs.
The NFC chip will be associated with an encrypted key, providing digital authenticity certificates and other undisclosed exclusive services. The prices of these shoes will range from $1,000 to $1,100.
However, it is worth mentioning that Dior's statement notably avoids any blockchain-related terminology such as Web3 and NFT. So far, Dior has not used such terms in the promotion of its B33 sports shoe collection. (Decrypt)
