Microsoft approximately 70% of AI business revenue comes from OpenAI, with customers still highly concentrated in the technology industry
Odaily Planet Daily News Microsoft's major AI business customers are still primarily concentrated in technology companies. In its most recent fiscal year, approximately 70% of its AI business revenue, or $24.1 billion, came from OpenAI.
In addition, Azure AI's major customers also include ByteDance, Meta, Adobe, Perplexity, Sierra, as well as Ant Group, Meituan, and Tencent. Among them, as of June this year, ByteDance's annualized spending on Microsoft's cloud platform is estimated to exceed $1 billion, while Meta spends several hundred million dollars annually.
Although Microsoft has previously disclosed that its AI model marketplace has approximately 100,000 customers, the main revenue is still concentrated among a few large technology and AI companies, which may indicate that AI has not yet achieved large-scale commercial application in the broader economy.
