Odaily Planet Daily News Luke Dashjr has used a random method to determine that BLAKE2b will serve as the new PoW algorithm for the BIP-110 chain, replacing the SHA-256d algorithm currently used by Bitcoin. Compared to SHA-256d, BLAKE2b is more suitable for mining with general-purpose CPU/GPU, is more CPU-friendly, and can reduce the advantage of existing Bitcoin ASIC miners.
Previously reported, Luke Dashjr plans to officially implement the BIP-110 hard fork on September 1, making it an independent blockchain and generating a new token distinct from Bitcoin. Luke Dashjr has been stripped of his Bitcoin BIP editor permissions by the Bitcoin BIP editing team.
