Iran and Oman negotiators have completed a draft agreement on the Strait of Hormuz

2026-08-05 13:50

Odaily News – Two regional officials revealed on Wednesday that negotiators from Iran and Oman have reached consensus on a draft agreement, which is currently awaiting final approval from Iran's Supreme Leader. Officials familiar with the negotiations stated that the potential agreement is intended to serve as an interim solution to the dispute between the United States and Iran over shipping issues in the Strait of Hormuz. They noted that this agreement is related to the deal reached between the U.S. and Iran in June of this year, which aimed to end the conflict and reopen the strait, though that deal ultimately did not hold. They added that this potential agreement would pave the way for the U.S. and Iran to resume negotiations and reach a final agreement on Tehran's nuclear program. (Associated Press)
