According to a research report by bitcoin technology company Bitfury, the total value of darknet bitcoin transactions has increased by 65% in the latest year and 340% in three years. Some newcomers may have questions, what exactly is the dark web?
In fact, our entire Internet can be divided into three categories, namely, the clear web, the deep web, and the dark web. Today, we will briefly introduce the difference between them.
Please look at the picture below:
Surface Web refers to the network that can be retrieved by ordinary search engines, accounting for about 4% of the entire Internet. For example, websites whose content can be retrieved by ordinary search engines (such as Google, Baidu, and Sogou), such as Xinhuanet, Weibo, Zhihu, etc., are called Mingwang. We spend most of our online time on the clear web.As opposed to the Mingnet, it is called the Deep Web, which refers to a network whose content cannot be retrieved by ordinary search engines, accounting for about 96% of the entire Internet. The content in the deep web requires account passwords, access rights, etc. to be accessible. For example, the content in our mailboxes, content stored in cloud services, company databases, academic paper databases, etc., all belong to the category of deep web. Part of our online time stays on the deep web.。
Under the category of the deep web, there is also a part of the network called the dark web (Dark Web), which requires a specific browser, special authorization or special settings to connect to the network, and ordinary browsers and search engines cannot enter.
One of the characteristics of the dark web is that it is highly secretive after being encrypted, and it is not easy to track the real geographical location and user identity. This has also led to many illegal transactions on the dark web, such as selling arms, drugs, identity passport information and so on.
