Canadian police confirm that Kevin Mirshahi, a 25-year-old crypto industry figure who was missing after being kidnapped, has died

2024-11-14 00:27
Odaily News Canadian law enforcement has confirmed that a body found in a Montreal park belongs to Kevin Mirshahi, a 25-year-old cryptocurrency industry figure, according to local media reports. Mirshahi has been suspected of death since at least August this year, but police have only now found and confirmed his body. Mirshahi was kidnapped from an apartment building in Old Montreal in late June along with three others. The others returned unharmed the next day, while Mirshahi remained missing. It wasn't until October 30 that a passerby found his body in Montreal's Île-de-la-Visitation Park. Mirshahi owns and operates an investment institution called Crypto Paradise Island. The Quebec investment regulator, the Autorité des marchés financiers, launched an investigation into the company in 2021. On July 4, 2024, the regulator banned Mirshahi, his company and two related persons from engaging in brokerage or investment advisory activities and securities trading, and ordered them to delete social media posts. In August, police arrested a 32-year-old woman who was suspected of participating in the kidnapping and death of Mirshahi and now faces charges including first-degree murder. (The Block)
