Memory Shortage May Persist Until 2027, Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron Capacity Sold Out in Advance
Odaily Planet Daily News The tight supply situation for memory chips is expected to persist until 2027. Industry insiders reveal that the three major memory manufacturers have essentially completed negotiations on capacity allocation for next year. In short, Samsung (SSNLF), SK Hynix (SKHY.US), and Micron (MU.US) have sold out their projected memory supply for 2027, with no plans for additional capacity. According to reports, the three major suppliers have allocated all of their DRAM and HBM capacity for 2027. The final allocation customers receive will only be 60% to 70% of their initial requests.
Industry insiders point out that 2027 will mark the most severe phase of the memory shortage. The allocated quantities have now been largely finalized, but final shipping prices will be determined closer to the time of delivery. In terms of market share, according to Counterpoint Research's global memory tracking data, Samsung held a 39% DRAM market share in the second quarter, ranking first; SK Hynix followed with 26%, though this marks a significant decline from 39% in the same period last year; Micron trailed closely behind with 25%.
