According to Odaily, sources in the Gulf region say that Oman has proposed to Iran the establishment of a joint regional mechanism for the management of the Strait of Hormuz, with voluntary fees. The plan put forward by Oman has received regional support. It is based on the Strait of Malacca model, where parties using the strait voluntarily contribute funds for navigation security, environmental protection, search and rescue operations, etc. Under this plan, Iran would not have sole control of the Strait of Hormuz.
