The Czech central bank becomes the first central bank to purchase Bitcoin.
The Czech National Bank (CNB) has announced the creation of a $1 million pilot portfolio of digital assets, encompassing Bitcoin, US dollar stablecoins, and tokenized deposits. The project, lasting two to three years, aims to test the central bank's processes for purchasing, holding, and managing blockchain assets. This investment is not included in foreign exchange reserves, and CNB Governor Aleš Michl stated that the move aims to explore Bitcoin's potential role in reserve diversification.
Speaking at a fintech conference hosted by the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, SEC Chairman Paul Atkins outlined the agency's plans to establish a "token taxonomy" to redefine which cryptocurrencies qualify as securities. He stated that the taxonomy will be anchored to the long-referred Howey investment contract securities analysis. Atkins noted that cryptocurrencies can be part of investment contracts, but networks mature, the issuer's role diminishes or disappears, and "tokens won't remain securities forever." The taxonomy aims to complement the crypto legislation currently under consideration in Congress. Atkins also revealed that he has instructed staff to prepare recommendations considering allowing tokens associated with investment contracts to trade on platforms not regulated by the SEC, such as those registered with the CFTC.

Circle has announced two new products based on its Arc blockchain (with a planned mainnet launch in 2026): Circle StableFX and Circle Partner Stablecoins. Circle StableFX: This is an institutional-grade, stablecoin-based foreign exchange (FX) engine, currently available on the Arc public testnet. It allows institutions to trade selected stablecoin currency pairs 24/7 via RFQ (Request for Quote) execution, offering competitive pricing, reduced counterparty risk, and on-chain settlement. Circle Partner Stablecoins: This initiative aims to support selected regional stablecoin issuers in deploying their non-USD stablecoins on Arc. Initial partners include Avenia (BRLA), Busan Digital Asset Custody Services (KRW1), and Coins.ph (PHPC), covering multiple currencies such as the Brazilian Real, South Korean Won, and Philippine Peso. Circle stated that StableFX, Partner Stablecoins, and Arc together form a unified stack that connects global currencies on-chain, aiming to upgrade foreign exchange settlement from T+1 to real-time settlement and promote more efficient global currency flows.

Decentralized privacy computing project Acurast announced the completion of a $11 million funding round, with participation from Ethereum co-founder and Polkadot founder Gavin Wood, MN Capital founder Michael Van The Poppe, and GlueNet founder Ogle, among others. The project plans to launch its mainnet on November 17 and is reportedly capable of tamper-proof execution and secure hardware verification on consumer-grade mobile phones.
Zero-knowledge identity verification startup Self has raised $9 million in seed funding, with participation from Greenfield Capital, Startup Capital Ventures x SBI Fund, Spearhead VC, Verda Ventures, Fireweed Ventures, and angel investors including Casey Neistat, Sreeram Kannan (EigenLayer), Sandeep Nailwal (Polygon), Julien Bouteloup (Curve), Jill Carlson (Espresso), and Hart Lambur (Across Protocol). Self provides privacy-preserving identity infrastructure that uses zero-knowledge proofs and verifiable credentials to verify attributes such as age or uniqueness without revealing personal data.
Artificial intelligence startup Cursor, which helps engineers write code, has raised $2.3 billion in a new funding round, valuing the company at $29.3 billion. Cursor can analyze a programmer's actions and suggest the next few lines of code. It also offers a chatbot where users can ask questions related to code. This valuation is staggering for a startup valued at less than $10 billion just months ago, highlighting the continued and strong investor interest in all things AI-related. Advances in generative AI have driven up valuations for a whole generation of coding companies utilizing the technology, such as Replit, Sweden's Lovable, and Cognition. But the challenge they face, like many AI products, is cost. AI coding companies must pay to build or access AI models to power their applications. Some venture capitalists expect these costs to decrease and customers to be willing to pay a premium for AI applications that deliver more value.
