Web3 games, once hailed as the future of interactive entertainment, are now facing a wave of closures.

Web3 game content creator and Ronin Network talk show host Tr 3 vor tweeted about 15 Web3 games that were announced to be closed this year, including Nyan Heroes, Mystery Society and Blade of God. These games have either suspended operations, have been closed, or are scheduled to be closed in 2025. In addition, two games that were not on the list were also announced to be closed earlier this year.

Web3 game closures in 2025

1.Anterris

Anterris is an open-world, third-person creature-collecting role-playing (RPG) game in which players collect 3D Pokémon-like creatures. It was developed by blockchain game developer Battlebound, best known for developing Evaverse.

Anterris is now available on the Monad testnet for players to play and test. The test runs from February 19 to February 23, during which time players can also collect NFTs on the testnet.

It is reported that Anterris is already in testing on Steam, but the official release date has not yet been announced.

Gameplay:

Anterris is an open-world creature collecting game where players explore diverse regions to discover and capture wild creatures called Antera. Each region has a unique Antera, encouraging players to explore by land, air, and sea.

Players can use captured Antera to form combat teams, each with unique spells and ultimate skills. Dungeons offer powerful artifacts that can enhance or modify skills, and players can challenge alone or team up with friends. Teamwork can earn rare items and experience points as rewards.

Reason for closure:

The Web3 game has been put on hold indefinitely following the demise of its developer, Battlebound, which announced it was shutting down after four years of development.

The studio said that despite their efforts to extend their operations and secure a new round of financing, a lack of funds and extremely severe market dynamics were the reasons for its closure.

They said that while the project attracted thousands of participants in recent playtests, its future remains uncertain.

The team has called the game on hold, but said it could still be restarted if new funding comes through.

Anterris developer BattleBound said: Despite recent momentum for the game, our small and motivated team has been struggling for four years to extend our operations as long as possible while working hard to secure our next round of funding... Ultimately, like many studios before us, we were forced to close due to extremely challenging market conditions.

2. Blade of God

The blockchain game industry is in retreat. Here are 17 Web3 games that will be shut down by 2025

Developed by Void Labs, Blade of God X (BOGX) is a blockchain-based action role-playing game that introduces a “practice while playing” mechanism, where players can influence the training of AI models through their actions in the game.

BOGX combines advanced AI agents with blockchain technology to enable real-time AI development through gameplay. Set in a mythical world where the gods have fallen and chaos has arisen, the game aims to go beyond traditional gaming, blending narrative, AI, and digital interaction into a unique and immersive experience.

The game has the backing of major crypto investors; BOGX also raised $6 million in funding last year and aims to combine blockchain mechanics with advanced AI.

Gameplay:

The game is based on Norse mythology. Players will play the role of heir, a reborn warrior, and start their journey in the land of fire, Muspelheim.

As they explore worlds connected by the World Tree, they face a choice between sacrifice and redemption: use ancient artifacts to influence the fate of the world, or seek guidance from gods such as Odin and Loki.

Reason for closure:

A former BOGX executive accused the project of abandoning Web3 development after receiving funding from the crypto space. The game’s former chief marketing officer, Amber Bella, claimed that the Web3 development roadmap was abandoned, team salaries were in arrears, and NFT-related benefits promised to players were ignored.

Bella also accused the Web2 team of using internal accounts to unfairly claim cash rewards that should have been paid to players. Despite early support from Web3 investors, the game has reportedly shifted to pure Web2 development.

3. Blast Royale

The blockchain game industry is in retreat. Here are 17 Web3 games that will be shut down by 2025

Blast Royale is a mobile battle royale game available on iOS and Android. Its white paper emphasizes that the game combines fun and competitive gameplay with blockchain features, allowing players to fully own in-game items such as characters and equipment.

Players can join matches, complete battle passes, participate in tournaments, and receive rewards based on their skills. In addition, the game has fun mini-games, events, and leaderboards. Players can trade earned items, participate in leagues, and even try to become a professional gamer.

The game uses the $NOOB token, which powers Blast Royale’s ecosystem, the “Blastverse.” $NOOB can be used for transactions, unlock features, and give players the right to participate in the game’s evolution.

Gameplay:

Players compete in a survival race with the goal of being the last person standing. They can choose to land anywhere on the map.

During matches, players will need to find rare chests containing powerful guns, ammunition, health packs, armor, and other items scattered throughout. They can also pick up items dropped by other players. However, with the exception of special coins (which can be used in the larger game world), most collected items do not remain after the match ends.

Players are rewarded based on their performance in matches - the higher you rank, the bigger the rewards. Progressing through the Blast Pass, Honor System, and Leaderboards earns players currency and items that can be used or traded.

Players can also earn trophies based on match rankings and kills. Collecting more trophies will help players climb the trophy leaderboard and win special rewards.

Reason for closure:

The developer of Blast Royale announced on its Discord that it will officially stop developing the game and the servers will be shut down on June 30, 2025. In another message, the team said that this decision was made after trying all other options.

As a farewell, the game will be fully open source starting June 1, allowing community members to access, use, modify and redistribute the game code without restriction. The original development team will provide support to any community member interested in continuing the project.

All in-app purchases have been disabled, and the team has committed to unlocking and distributing any remaining $NOOB, which will still be tradable on Aerodrome.

Blast Royale’s Discord server will remain open as a community space, and the team encourages players to enjoy their remaining time, explore new characters, and participate in eventual events and livestreams.

4.Champions Ascension

The blockchain game industry is in retreat. Here are 17 Web3 games that will be shut down by 2025

Champions Ascension is a fantasy fighting game set in a gladiator style.

The game runs on the Polygon network and does not require players to own NFTs or connect a wallet to play or enjoy the full experience, making it a free-to-play game.

Players can buy and sell unique NFT characters and in-game items through the game’s official store Grand Bazaar or supported third-party platforms.

Last year, the game won the Gam 3 Best Fighting Game award for 2024. The game is available through the Champions Ascension website or the Epic Games store.

Gameplay:

Heroes start out as Grunts and work their way up the ranks to become powerful NFTs called Eternals, unlocking new skills and earning cryptocurrency rewards.

Combat is strategic and influenced by each heros clan, class, essence type, and unique body parts. Players can fight in multiplayer PvP modes such as 1v1, 3v3, and free-for-all, or explore PvE battles such as boss battles. Hardcore mode offers advanced rewards, but non-Eternals heroes risk permanent death if defeated.

Players can earn Essence to level up, craft items, and advance their heroes. Prime Eternal NFTs offer special benefits, such as daily rewards and rare abilities.

Reason for closure:

Luke Jech, community and social marketing manager at Rough House Games, announced on his Discord server that the Champions Ascension server, including features such as Imperial Expeditions and Dudo, will be temporarily shut down as the development team shifts its focus to a new project called REACH Labs. The move is intended to allocate all resources to REACH, a Web3 distribution platform jointly developed by Rough House Games and Overworld.

Despite the suspension of the project, KEYS rewards will still be issued to eligible players to ensure that their efforts in the game are continuously recognized. The developer also assured the community that Champions Ascension has not been cancelled, but is being re-evaluated, and subsequent updates will be made after the official release of REACH.

“REACH is another big step for us – an ambitious project with the potential to redefine how games and beyond are distributed. While development and servers for Champions Ascension are paused, the technology we’re building will play a key role in shaping its future.”

5. Derby Stars and Derby Race

The blockchain game industry is in retreat. Here are 17 Web3 games that will be shut down by 2025

Derby Stars is a blockchain-based horse racing metaverse game built on the Polygon platform. Players can own, breed, train and trade unique horse racing NFTs consisting of more than 10 customizable body parts. Derby Race is a real-time pick a horse to win money horse racing game that can be played on Telegram.

Gameplay:

Derby Stars incorporates a “play and earn” mechanism where users participate in horse racing, improve the skills of their horses, and earn cryptocurrency rewards not only by winning, but also by training and breeding. The game has a dual-token economic system consisting of a governance token and a utility token.

Derby Race offers fast, engaging two-minute game sessions where players can predict and pick the winning horse to win prizes.

Reason for closure:

HypeDream CEO Ham Seon-Woo announced in a blog post that Derby Stars and Derby Race have officially shut down due to long-term financial difficulties. He noted that the team has suffered major setbacks since the Terra crash in 2022, which caused their NFT revenue and a large amount of seed funding to vanish.

Although they relaunched on Polygon and later attempted to migrate to Immutable, these projects failed to attract sufficient investment or user growth, ultimately leading to the decision to terminate all services.

6. Goombles

The blockchain game industry is in retreat. Here are 17 Web3 games that will be shut down by 2025

Goombles is a 3D tower defense game that aims to bridge the gap between Web2 and Web3 through gaming and physical products. Built on the Cardano blockchain, the game features collectible candy-themed characters that serve as passes to exclusive privileges.

While Goombles is not a “play and earn” game, it leverages blockchain technology to enhance the gaming experience, providing surprises and rewards by owning different types of Goombles NFTs.

Gameplay:

Goombles is a tower defense game where players defend their base from cunning enemies called Sours by strategically placing towers and controlling mechs in the candy-themed world of Sweetopia.

Players initially have a mecha NFT avatar and use it and upgradeable towers to slow down, attack, etc., to advance in single-player adventures, player battles, and team competitions.

Reason for closure:

Goombles shared a screenshot of the announcement on the X platform, announcing that after more than two years of development, the team decided to stop the development of the game. Although the game was launched in 2024 and 339 players installed the game, its activity was not enough to support further development of the game.

The developer noted that while development has ceased, the servers will remain operational so players can continue to enjoy the game.

7.Jungle

The blockchain game industry is in retreat. Here are 17 Web3 games that will be shut down by 2025

Jungle is a Web3 game publisher focused on hybrid games that are mobile-first, community-driven, and blockchain-powered.

Its first game, For The Win (FTW), is a mobile shooter that has reportedly been downloaded over 100,000 times in initial testing in Latin America, with plans to roll it out globally.

Reason for closure:

Grail.ETH posted a screenshot of the announcement in the X post that Jungle will stop all Web3 development and focus on developing a completely free mobile game.

The statement noted that after a year of actively engaging with the community through game nights, tournaments, and NFT sales, the team decided to prioritize the sustainability of the project, move all development work off-chain, and cease Web3 integration.

8. Kryptomon

Kryptomon is a Web3 mobile MMORPG game where players can collect, breed, train and battle unique NFT creatures - Kryptomon.

In 2023, Playdex, a Filipino-led social gaming platform, launched a rental marketplace for Kryptomon: Genesis, where players can rent Kryptomon NFTs for just 1 peso (Philippine currency) per day.

Gameplay:

Kryptomon: Genesis is a blockchain-based Web3 RPG game set in the Kogaea metaverse, where players act as trainers to explore the world, complete quests, and fight with NFT-based digital creatures Kryptomon. The games core blockchain features include NFT ownership, a mechanism for earning revenue through gameplay (players are rewarded with $KMON tokens), and secure digital asset management through Web3 integration.

To start playing, users will need three Kryptomon NFTs, which can now be rented through Playdex for as little as 1 peso per day. These rented assets can also be used in upcoming tournaments on Playdex GameHub, where players will have the opportunity to compete for leaderboard rewards and receive additional rewards.

Reason for closure:

In Tr 3 vors X thread, he shared a screenshot of a message from the Kryptomon (KMON) Discord community, which showed that the development of the game had been put on hold due to lack of funds.

According to market sources, the team has exhausted its resources and is currently seeking new funding or potential buyers to restart the project.

9. Loot Legends

Loot Legends is a free mobile dungeon crawler game developed by HYCHAIN and available for download on the App Store and Google Play. The game includes more than 10 chapters, 200 dungeon levels, and more than 1,500 weapons, armor and other items.

The game uses multiple in-game currencies such as diamonds, gold coins, and medals of honor, and operates its economy around $TOPIA. Players can earn $TOPIA through the game and use it to purchase premium items. The game also includes a marketplace called The Outpost where players can trade in-game items as digital collectibles.

Gameplay:

In Loot Legends, players will immerse themselves in a Rogue-like dungeon exploration game where each adventure is a new experience.

They will explore more than 10 chapters, more than 200 carefully crafted dungeon levels, fight monsters, avoid traps and defeat powerful bosses. Along the way, players can collect precious loot such as weapons, armor and special items, which can be upgraded or crafted to enhance the players combat power.

The game features both single-player and multiplayer modes, including guilds, team dungeons, and PvP challenges. It blends action, strategy, and treasure hunting elements to provide a fast-paced and rewarding gaming experience.

Reason for closure:

On February 28, 2025, HYCHAIN announced that it would close its game distribution division to focus entirely on the development of the companys flagship gaming platform HYTOPIA.

The decision marks the end of HYCHAIN’s publishing business, which includes titles such as Loot Legends and Dragon Legends. According to the company, the move is intended to streamline operations and focus resources on HYTOPIA, a project it believes has greater long-term potential.

Loot Legends, a Web2 game acquired by HYCHAIN and migrated to the Web3 platform, will continue to operate but will no longer receive any updates. The game previously attracted more than 25,000 active players and developed a loyal community.

10.MetalCore

MetalCore is a mech-based combat game with an emphasis on intense strategic multiplayer combat, developed by Studio 369. The game blends first-person and third-person shooter elements with crafting and vehicle-building elements.

The game is currently in Early Access on the Epic Games platform. Developed with Unreal Engine 5, MetalCore supports cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes. Season 1, which launched on September 12, 2024, introduced a new MetalPunks theme, leaderboards, and tournaments.

Gameplay:

MetalCore is a free-to-play post-apocalyptic blockchain massively multiplayer online game that combines first-person shooter gameplay with large-scale PvE and PvP battles. Players can fight for one of three factions using customizable war machines such as mechs, tanks, and jets, earn NFT-based in-game assets, and ultimately participate in a dual-token economic system consisting of a governance token (MTP) and a utility token (FAB).

Initially built on Immutable X’s zkEVM at Polygon to enable blockchain integrations including NFT ownership and item trading, MetalCore is reportedly migrating its blockchain infrastructure to Solana for enhanced scalability and performance.

Reason for closure:

According to Tr 3 vor, the Metalcore developers have yet to make an official statement, but the game appears to have been abandoned. No statement has been made in response to outside speculation.

In Metalcores latest X post, it thanked players for participating in the Ita Battlegrounds event and announced that its servers and Discord channel would be temporarily offline to implement important game changes. Although they assured the community that they would be back soon, there have been no other updates from the account since March.

11.Mystery Society

The blockchain game industry is in retreat. Here are 17 Web3 games that will be shut down by 2025

Mystery Society is a Web3 social deduction game developed by Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow. The studio is led by former Disney and Universal Pictures executive Chris Heatherly. The game focuses on teamwork and strategic discussion.

Although development has been suspended, the game was previously available to try on desktop by logging in with Immutable Passport, or by downloading it through the Google Play Store.

Gameplay:

Players take on the role of family members in a haunted castle, some of whom are secretly imposters who wreak havoc as everyone works to complete challenges.

The core gameplay of the game revolves around reasoning and deception, with players holding meetings and voting to eliminate suspected impostors, blending strategy, social interaction, and teamwork into a suspenseful and entertaining experience.

Reason for closure:

The Mystery Society announced a pause in development in a post on February 25, 2025, citing difficulty in obtaining funding given the current challenges facing the Web3 gaming industry. Plans for the $MYSTRY token have now been put on hold indefinitely, and players who have purchased in-game gems will be refunded.

While the game will remain online for the time being, the team is exploring the possibility of re-releasing the game on Steam without the Web3 elements and is open to working with publishers from either Web2 or Web3.

12. Nyan Heroes

Nyan Heroes is a free-to-play, Solana-based hero shooter developed by 9 Lives Interactive and inspired by games like Overwatch, where players control cats that pilot mechs called Guardians, each with unique abilities and customizable gear.

The associated NYAN token, launched in May 2024, can be obtained through the Play and Earn airdrop event and can be used to unlock rewards, pay fees, rent assets, and participate in governance.

Gameplay:

Nyan Heroes is a shooter where players control cats driving powerful robots. Each cat has its own style and skills, while the robots are divided into different classes and have special abilities.

Players can upgrade and customize their robots with add-ons. The game also features fast, agile action and offers multiple game modes for a rich, varied, and fun combat experience.

Reason for closure:

Despite attracting over 1 million players in four pre-alpha tests on Epic and Steam platforms, Nyan Heroes announced its closure due to lack of funds.

Developer 9 Lives Interactive said that despite discussions about publishing, funding and acquisitions, it was struggling to secure funding.

While there is still hope that the studio or IP could be acquired, the future of the game remains unclear.

Nyan Heroes said: Despite these achievements and discussions about publishing, new investment, funding and acquisition, we have not been able to obtain the funding required to complete the game. This is not the outcome we expected. The entire industry is in a difficult situation at the moment, and Nyan Heroes is sadly closing.

13. RoboKiden

RoboKiden is a fast-paced team action game. It combines third-person shooting, cooperative gameplay and MOBA-like strategy elements with a large cast of characters, unique weapons and robots. The game supports cross-platform online play and can be played on PC, PS 5, Switch and Xbox Series X platforms, bringing an exciting and strategic robot combat experience.

Gameplay:

RoboKiden is a game that combines teamwork, strategy and a variety of weapons and equipment. Each player controls their own unique character and fights in battles that usually last about 10 minutes.

Players can choose unique characters, use a variety of cool guns and powerful robots, and compete for key points on the map.

Reason for closure:

Although the developer did not explicitly state that the game has been shut down, there has been no new developments since its X account published a summary report on the smart contract hacking attack in February last year.

On December 25, 2024, a vulnerability in RoboKidens team ownership smart contract on Avalanche allowed an attacker to steal 38.7 million $KIDEN tokens. The vulnerability was caused by a lack of ownership check in the contract initialization function. The attacker exchanged the stolen tokens for $WAVAX and transferred the funds to his own wallet.

According to RoboKiden, as the price of $KIDEN plummeted, three buyers purchased the stolen tokens at low prices and transferred them to MEXC, making it more difficult to recover them. In response, RoboKiden withdrew liquidity from the decentralized exchange, issued a warning to the community, and began to cooperate with the exchange and law enforcement agencies to investigate.

The team noted that the attack caused significant damage to the stability of the token as well as team resources.

14. Rumble Kong League

Rumble Kong League is a Web3-based three-on-three arcade basketball game that combines fast-paced, exaggerated basketball action with blockchain technology and NFTs.

The game is set in the city of Aslos. Players can unlock rewards by advancing through leagues while exploring missions, challenges and mini-games.

The game is available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. It is also one of the games developed based on the Ronin platform.

Gameplay:

Players can own or rent unique Kong NFTs and compete in short, exciting matches using special skills, cool dunks, and strategic moves.

The core gameplay is driven by AI but is still influenced by player input, ensuring dynamic, skill-based competition. The game also features a play and earn system where players can earn in-game rewards that can potentially be exchanged for real-world currency.

Reason for closure:

Although the developers have yet to make an official statement, Ronin talk show host StarPlatinum expressed disappointment over the failure of Rumble Kong League, noting that despite years of high anticipation for the project, including the launch of NFTs and support from celebrities such as Stephen Curry, the project ultimately failed to achieve its intended goals.

The team behind the game later told the community that they were starting from scratch, stopped paying moderators two months ago, and now appear to have abandoned the project, possibly selling it to a company in Brazil.

15.Tatsumeeko

Tatsumeeko is a Web3 role-playing game integrated with Discord, and also supports iOS, Android, and the web.

In September 2024, Tatsu Works, the studio behind the game, announced its migration from IMX and Solana to the Ronin Network.

Gameplay:

Tatsumeekos gaming experience is centered around loot, team growth, and community building.

The game is set in the continent of Steyria. Players will play the role of visitors from another world and come to a turbulent peaceful era where modern technology and ancient mythology collide with each other. The game adopts a mixed team system. Players can customize their main characters and form a team of companions. Each companion has a unique growth path and equipment.

Battles are automatic turn-based, and players need to develop strategies for different enemy squads. In addition to combat, Tatsumeeko also includes life skill activities such as fishing, farming, and pet care, which are also attractive to players who dont like combat. Players can also obtain private Pocket Dimensions for personal housing construction and pet interaction.

Reason for closure:

In a blog post, Tatsu Works announced that it had officially stopped developing Tatsumeeko: Lumina Fates, citing challenges in launching a sustainable product that met community expectations. Despite multiple playtests and high community engagement, the team felt that the game lacked the core concept and confidence to move forward.

According to them, this decision shows Tatsu returning to its roots in developing games for online communities like Discord. The announcement also highlights that its next project, Project: Wander, will launch directly within these social spaces, focusing on fast, interactive, and community-driven gameplay.

Tatsu also assured holders of Meekolony Pass and Aethereal Parcels that their assets will still have utility in the upcoming projects.

16. The Walking Dead: Empires

The Walking Dead: Empires is a blockchain-based survival MMORPG set in the universe of the hit AMC TV series. Developed by Ember Entertainment and backed by Gala Games, the game combines classic survival mechanics with NFT-based ownership.

The game features NFT land ownership, which brings game advantages such as resource upgrades and additional defense, and gives players the glory of owning a place in the game world.

Gameplay:

In The Walking Dead: Empires, players can choose a hero, either a regular survivor or an NFT-based character, to participate in a survival game that includes scavenging, crafting, building, and defending a base.

Key features include resource collection, player-versus-player battles, and NFT integration to enhance the gaming experience. While NFTs can bring advantages, the game is fully playable without them and is designed to appeal to both traditional and Web3 gamers.

Reason for closure:

Gala Games has announced that it will shut down The Walking Dead: Empires on July 31, 2025, marking the end of more than three years of development and more than a year of public testing for the project. This decision is part of the companys strategic realignment to refocus on the broader Gala Games ecosystem.

Players who hold in-game NFTs will receive replacement NFTs with equivalent functionality in other games from Gala Games. The redemption system is under development and more details will be announced soon.

But Gala Games did not specify the specific details of the NFT redemption process, so there is still uncertainty about how the alternative NFTs will match the value and functionality of the original assets.

17.Valeria: Land Before the War

Valeria Studios is a Web3 game studio dedicated to creating blockchain-based games where players can own, trade, and monetize in-game assets.

Its flagship game, Valeria: Land Before the War, allows players to use VAL tokens to purchase items and participate in the game economy.

Gameplay:

Valeria: Land Before the War is a real-time strategy mobile game released on October 4, 2024, for iOS and Android platforms.

Players can unlock heroes, weapons, and NFT items through multiple game modes such as dungeons, story mode, faction battles, PvP, tournaments, etc. The game is released on the XAI network.

Reason for closure:

Valeria Games announced in an X announcement that they have run out of money and will be suspending development and support of their mobile games and trading card game (TCG).

For now, we will keep the game running for a while while looking for investors or potential buyers. If we find the right partner to help us realize our vision for this mobile game and collectible card game (TCG), we will do our best to realize it. But for now, plans for LOV TGE are on hold indefinitely.

Current status of Web3 gaming industry

In a recent DappRadar report, Web3 game investment plummeted 71% to $91 million in the first quarter of 2025, with investor interest shifting to AI and real-world assets. The user base also fell 6% month-on-month, with 5.8 million daily active unique wallets.

Additionally, a report from Footprint Analytics earlier this year noted that despite the strength of the broader crypto market, the Web3 gaming sector experienced a sharp decline in January 2025, with market capitalization falling 19.3% to $22.3 billion and transaction volume falling 12.4% due to platform consolidation, declining investor interest, and competition between chains such as Wax, opBNB, and Aptos.
