Client Team Update
NimbusIn this issue, I've specifically added an update from the client team as Genesis approaches.
, and its latest news
Most importantly, all client teams want to release client software between November 24th (the genesis state reveal) and December 1st (the earliest genesis date). This client release will incorporate the genesis state and a large number of bootstrap nodes (and all the latest fixes), the agreement gives us a one week grace period.email pushandandtwitter account

Still running, with 71,000 validators, but only slightly above 70% participation, with entry and exit queues three weeks away. Developers generally agree that Medalla is doing well, but can now be stopped. Medalla is not running the latest version of the spec, and the lengthy queue keeps validators out who just want to test configurations or get their hands dirty. We kickstarted aToledo Testnet, which can accommodate 16,384 validators, is only open to client teams. which hasEth2Stats Monitoring. Its purpose is just to test the full mainnet specification in a good environment. After Toledo stabilized, it has been inworks perfectly
, according to plan its life span is only a few days.
The next large public testnet will be Pyrmont, which will launch on November 18th UTC. Initially 100,000 validators will be run by the client team, which will then be opened up for community participation. Unlike Medalla, we want each participant to run a small number of validators in order to reduce queuing times and reduce the risk of stalling. It's not yet certain whether Pyrmont will be in the long run.

It seems that the progress is relatively slow in the early stage, but according toAnd Jutsin's tweets and votes, most people haven't acted yet, I'm expecting to see a big climb as the 24th approaches. (Reminder: If you want to become a genesis verifier, you need to send the deposit to the contract before noon on November 24th UTC time (that is, 8:00 pm on November 24th, Beijing time), which is the week before the genesis time. If you make a deposit after that, you may need to join the validator queue after genesis)
the taxNow coming to everyone’s favorite topic: the taxation of Eth2 deposits, the debate over which has been raging on Twitter over the past few days. The key question is whether the act of sending ETH to the deposit contract suffices for capital gain purposes (it is a "taxable event" under US tax law, and I presume the same is true in the UK). This again may depend on whether the ETH on the Eth1 chain and the ETH on the Eth2 chain are the same asset. James PrestwichVigorouslyclaimThe two are different assets; Justin Leroux () butthinkthinkTokenTaxIt's actually the same property. There are also various other characters joining the fight, including
, which has been discussed in a number of series of tweets. No one knows the various tax authorities around the worldmay make
What decision. As with many taxation matters, authorities may take a variety of views, and they will issue decrees according to their own purposes. Based on this premise, we should adopt a cautious attitude towards tax issues. You can do your own research or get professional advice, but please don't make decisions based on some tweets.LiquidstakeAlso mention here this week'sThe BlockQuoting Andrew Keys: "If you're going to do a deal, you need to have a clear understanding of the regulatory and tax issues. . This mechanism will be activated when blocks are not finalized to expedite kicking inactive validators out of the network and allowing the network to recover. The main lesson from the Medalla testnet is that we punished too harshly some validators who were really trying their best to maintain the network, but were struggling due to poor network conditions. The goal of the proposal is to reduce penalties for validators who remain active intermittently, while still penalizing validators who are completely offline.Alex Vlasov of the TXRX team wants to make the Eth2 specification more testable. There were a few issues about testnets discussed in the meeting, but it was mainly Vitalik's proposal to clearly separate future work on sharding, light client support, and Eth1/Eth2 mergers that caught my attention. This means that the above three tasks can effectively be carried out in any order, which means that we need such asexecutable beacon chainSuch a design, that is, before we have launched shardingBeforeBefore
Now this proposal will change according to demand, and it remains to be seen how it will be implemented in the future. At the same time it is very practical and definitely an "engineering method". It's just that I have to say that I have to mourn our beautiful, pure phase 0, phase 1, phase 2 roadmap, and the execution engine and beautiful blueprint it contains. Also, I regret the loss of the original Web3 vision built on top of Ethereum, Whisper and Swarm. Obviously, I've always had an obsession with designs that were beautiful but couldn't be rolled out.
