Odaily News: Rocket reported that a chain-based attack occurred on September 5, resulting in a loss of approximately $287,000 in funds. The attacker exploited a dormant perpetual market on Rocket, using a one-time account to place artificially inflated price orders and trade against themselves, generating fictitious profits on the account while causing the one-time account to become insolvent. The attacker then withdrew approximately $287,000 in profits from the Bridge. Currently, all deposits, withdrawals, and trading have been suspended. The team is cooperating with security firms and law enforcement agencies, and coordinating with exchanges, cross-chain bridges, and stablecoin issuers to track and freeze the stolen funds. Officials stated that a recovery plan is being developed, prioritizing refunds to small-amount accounts, with specific details to be announced as soon as possible.

Odaily News Emerging market stocks rose on Monday, as optimism over a new generation of AI models boosted heavyweight tech stocks, helping offset the drag on sentiment from higher oil prices. The MSCI Emerging Markets Index rose as much as 1.4%, reaching its highest level since June 26. South Korea's KOSPI Index surged 4%. The emerging markets currency index edged up 0.1%, after having risen in 12 of the previous 13 trading sessions.
The technology sector followed Friday's gains in U.S. chip stocks, turning in the best performance among the emerging markets index. Meanwhile, oil prices climbed after U.S. and Iranian forces exchanged attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, and strong U.S. non-farm payroll data fueled bets that the Federal Reserve could raise interest rates sooner, dragging most other sector sub-indices lower. Odaily News Silicon Valley angel investor Liron Shapira (@liron) posted on X this morning: "I predict (with 50% confidence): due to AI shaking the security and stability guarantees people once believed Bitcoin possessed, BTC's price will plummet more than 50% within the next two years."
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin rebutted this, stating: "I hold the exact opposite view. My basic reasoning is that, in the long run, I am quite optimistic about network security. I believe the main challenge lies in smoothly navigating the transition period. Moreover, I think BTC can at least properly handle all problems that do not require social consensus (such as upgrading clients, mining pools, etc., to counter network-level attacks — these fall into this category). Additionally, I believe the probability of hash algorithms or proof-of-work mechanisms being genuinely broken is extremely slim. I would have wanted to bet with you, but considering my current asset allocation (I guess you hold the same view regarding Ethereum ETH), I have already staked about 90% of my net worth on this bet."
