BIP-54 began testing on the Bitcoin Inquisition Signet network in February 2026
Odaily reports that Bitcoin's next major protocol upgrade may be a soft fork called "Great Consensus Cleanup," BIP-54, which aims to fix four vulnerabilities in the network's consensus rules: the time warp attack, "poison" blocks that require lengthy validation, the 64-byte transaction vulnerability in the Merkle tree, and the replay risk posed by duplicate coinbase transactions. The proposal was first drafted by developer Matt Corallo in March 2019, formally received a BIP number in April 2025, had its test vectors merged in late 2025, and began testing on the Bitcoin Inquisition Signet network in February 2026.
