Bonk Guy: Lost millions more to overtrading after the October 10 market crash; traders should learn to wait for market opportunities

Odaily reports: Trader Bonk Guy posted on X reflecting on his trading experience, stating that on October 10, 2025, due to a systemic failure at a major centralized exchange, he suffered an eight-figure USD loss within minutes, marking the largest single-day loss of his career. He said that in the weeks and months that followed, driven by the urge to recover losses and prove his trading ability, he fell into overtrading and lost millions of dollars more.

Bonk Guy pointed out that trading skill, experience, and a mature trading system are not enough to guarantee consistent profitability—trading performance also depends on market conditions, timing, and luck. Strategies that generate massive returns in a bull market may not work in a bear market. Citing the 2021 Meme coin rallies in DOGE and SHIB, as well as the 2024 to early 2025 surges in tokens like WIF, POPCAT, and FARTCOIN, he emphasized that trading opportunities tend to cluster in specific market phases.

He believes that one of the most important abilities a trader can develop is recognizing when their edge has disappeared. Over a sufficiently long time horizon, consistently outperforming the market is nearly impossible. Therefore, being able to exit gracefully when things go wrong and wait for the next opportunity is the wisest choice.

Finally, he concluded that the goal of trading is not to always stay active, but to seize opportunities during market windows where you truly have an edge—and to have the discipline to do nothing when participation isn't worthwhile.
