CME Shelves Plan to Launch Round-the-Clock Crude Oil Futures Trading Amid Industry Concerns
Odaily News: CME Group has decided to shelve its plan to launch round-the-clock crude oil futures trading after facing opposition from industry participants. Market participants are concerned that insufficient weekend liquidity could distort WTI crude oil pricing, while continuous trading would increase pressures related to weekend staffing, commercial hedging, and off-hours margin calls.
CME CEO Terry Duffy stated that after extensive communication with market participants, it was found that core participants generally have concerns about this matter. Introducing round-the-clock energy trading without thorough due diligence could lead to unforeseen consequences and increase market risk. (Bloomberg)
