Hive Appeals to European Commission Over Swedish Bitcoin Mining VAT Dispute

Odaily reports that Bitcoin mining company Hive Digital Technologies has filed an appeal with the European Commission regarding a Swedish VAT dispute. The Swedish Tax Agency reclassified the data center services of its two Swedish subsidiaries as proprietary mining, with retroactive application to relevant operations since 2022.

This classification excludes the relevant operations from VAT scope, and input VAT already refunded to the subsidiaries may need to be returned. Hive argues that its subsidiaries provide hash rate services to clearly defined clients under contracts, which should constitute taxable business activities.

A Swedish court declined to refer the matter to the Court of Justice of the European Union. Hive stated that the court did not provide reasons for its refusal and has submitted the dispute to the European Commission. (Bitcoin.com News)
