US SEC Commissioner: Zero-Knowledge Proofs Can Verify User Eligibility Without Disclosing Personal Information
Odaily reports that U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Commissioner Hester Peirce, speaking at the SIFMA Digital Assets Conference, stated that regulators should re-examine traditional financial surveillance methods and shift from "collecting more data" to using new technologies for more precise verification. She said that technologies such as zero-knowledge proofs can verify whether users meet requirements related to age, citizenship, accredited investor status, or sanctions lists without disclosing personal information such as name, income, or address; federal agencies and regulated entities can adopt attribute-based verification when technically feasible, and allow registered entities to rely more on third-party identity verification to reduce redundant collection and storage of sensitive information.
